“How do you start a revival?” someone once asked the British evangelist, Gipsy Smith. He replied, “If you want to start a revival, go home, and get a piece of chalk. Go into your closet and draw a circle on the floor. Kneel down in the middle of the circle and ask God to start a revival inside the chalk mark. When He has answered your prayer, the revival has begun.”
Most people think that God can start a revival anytime He wishes. Can He? Will He? The Bible defines active sin in this way: “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them” (James 4:17, NIV). If God could start a revival anytime He wanted (as if we were robots), and He isn’t doing it, or if He’s holding back revival from a nation, then He would be guilty of omission by His own principles!
This Jesus-Now Revival has erupted throughout our nation whenever people have turned themselves to God in godly repentance and humility, weeping over and asking forgiveness for their sins and their selfish lives. This is spiritual awakening—to be a true follower of Christ living in a continual state of revival as a clean vessel for His service. To get a grasp of God in Spirit and in Truth, and then live it, is to know revival—to know Christ—personally.
This is the most important decision of all: Will you choose to seek Him, to love Him, and to follow Him? Are you open to the Jesus-Now Awakening that God wants to bring about in you? Neither you nor I can create revival, but we can pray and prepare. Like Hezekiah who sought the Lord, you can come to God just as you are with everything that concerns you, saddens you, and moves you about the condition of our nation, today.
James 4:17 New King James Version (NKJV)
17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Acts 3:19 New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
2 Peter 3:9 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
