Walking in the Light of God’s Word
Loving the Word #7 – A Life Explained as one of “Experiencing Scripture”
“If anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.” 1 Corinthians 8:2
Take a moment to remember a time when you were sure that you “knew” a Bible verse, only to discover that there was more to know! Share about this time with a partner or a small group.
I remember knowing that the Bible says . . .
Only to discover that . . .
For example: I remember knowing that the Bible says that confessing my faults is good for relationships (see James 5:16). Only to realize that it had been way too many months since I had actually experienced this verse. It had been too long since I had acknowledged any wrongs or regrets with my spouse.
Just like the disciples, we often hear the Word and even receive it, but we stop short of the life-changing liberating power of experiencing it.
“I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.” Psalm 119:16, NLT
Disciples delight in walking in the light of God’s Word, not forgetting how His truth has blessed them in areas of salvation, peace, and wisdom. Consider a specific Bible verse that has become especially meaningful to you. Then reflect on how God made it alive for you, leading you out of darkness into light.
I’m grateful to God for using _______________in my life in order to lead me out of the darkness of ______________ and into the light of ______________________________.
After sharing your responses with a partner or small group, pray together. Express your gratitude for the power, promise, and potential of the light of God’s Word.
“This is that spoken of by the prophets.” Acts 2:16
“My comfort in my sufering is this: Your promise preserves my life.” Psalm 119:50
“My soul is consumed with longing for Your laws at all times.” Psalm 119:20
